About us

Ritratto per about us alec & franz in bianco e nero

Alec &  Franz are an artistic duo whose work inhabits the space between architecture, visual art and opera. Their collaboration brings together two distinct yet complementary practices: Alec’s precise graphite drawings and architectural research, and Franz’s multidisciplinary language spanning photography, art direction, stage design and filmmaking.

Alec, trained in Architectural History at Oxford, explores the relationship between monument, space and perception through drawing. Franz, a graduate with honours in Set Design from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, has developed an international career across theatre, opera, cinema and visual art, with a particular interest in transforming architecture into image and experience.

Since 2019, their collaboration has evolved from the visual design of major opera productions—including "Castor et Pollux"- Warsaw Chamber Opera, for which they received the 2022 Jan Kiepura Award—into an independent artistic research. With Floating Architectural Spaces, architecture becomes fluid, suspended and theatrical: familiar monuments are deconstructed, reimagined and transformed into immersive visual spaces.

Their ongoing dialogue extends into opera, film and contemporary art, where image, sound and architecture converge to question how we perceive and inhabit space. Their work is ultimately a meeting point between the tangible and the imaginary, between the permanence of architecture and the ephemeral nature of performance.
